THE VILLAGE MASTER BY OLIVER GOLDSMITH.

OUTLINE

"The village master" by Oliver Goldsmith is first published in 1770. In this whole poem we can see that, the mixed feelings of fear, respect and humour by the village master, students as well as people in the village.

ABOUT AUTHOR

Oliver Goldsmith was the popular poet of the 18th century. His life history was not well known, because he often lie to his official biographer. So his life was not known fully.
He may be born between 1728 to 1731 in a poor irish family, he was one of the seven children in his family.
He is well known for his intelligence.He earned a degree of  bachelor of arts at Trinity College, Dublin in 1750.

"She Stoops to conquer",
"The Deserted village",
"The Vicar of wakefield",
"The Traveller".

SUMMARY


The village master taught  in his school, he had a skill to control and maintain the students. He taught in his noisy mansion, which is situated next to the irregular fence covered with mass of flowers.

He was a strict person and also a severe person to observe all the things. He was familiar to the poet and absentees, those who are absented to the school are suffered by the village master. His morning face should be carefully examined, because the day's misfortunes were written on his frown. 

The village master was a contradiction to his students, Although he was  strict but he was very kind and good humoured man. He often telling jokes to his students , even if the jokes was not really funny the students are pretended to be happy to impress their teacher. If the students notice anger by frown in his head, students conveys message to all their friends.

He was a kind man as if he was strict is only because his intense love for learning. He wants his students to become a genuine scholars, so he was very strict in teaching.

All the villagers were same in opinion about the teacher that, "he was a Learned and a knowledgeable man, he could write and do mathematics and also survey land. He had a special skill to tell future.
He also had a skill in arguing,Even if he was defeated in any arguments he had a  skill to manage the argument.

His voice is like a thundering sound, when he speaks all the villagers were amazed to listen his Learned words used by him. The villagers also amazed that how he stores all this information in his small head.
 
But his past are only in memories not in real, they never forget about the village master.
